Classics Still Rule The Strip: Watch This Plymouth GTX Beat A Mustang Shelby GT500
The footage shows the classic muscle car giving a Mustang GT and 2020 Shelby GT500 a valuable lesson.
There is nothing quite as exciting as a muscle car drag race, especially between a classic model from the late ’60s and a modern-day ride. The famous Plymouth GTX from Chrysler goes up against the likes of the 2020 Shelby GT500 in this drag race on the Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube Channel.
Chrysler’s Plymouth GTX is one of the most famous classic muscle cars ever. It was born in the ’60s and the last model was in 1971 and yet, it still has the power to beat the likes of a modern-day muscle car.
The first matchup involves the Plymouth GTX going up against a Mustang GT. Once the race starts, it leaves the 2020 Shelby GT500 standing. Later on, it takes on a Shelby GT500 from 2020, which feature a 5.2-liter V8 in stock form. The engine in the Shelby GT500 can generate an impressive 760 hp.
The Race Has A Clear Winner
Seeing as the Plymouth GTX gets off to a flying start against the Mustang GT, it is quite obvious that it is going to win the race. It hits the quarter of a mile mark in an outstanding 10.10 seconds at a speed of 131.55 mph, whereas, the Mustang GT hits the mark in a much slower time of 10.45 seconds at a top speed of 130.36 mph. Although the 0.35 seconds doesn’t seem like much, it certainly makes a huge difference in a drag race.
As soon as the GTX leaves the Mustang GT standing at the finish line, it is clear who the winner will be. It deserves it, thanks to its impressive engine and outstanding horsepower. Muscle car fans will know how impressive older muscle cars can be. No matter how old they are, they can still outperform the modern-day rides.
In summary, the Plymouth GTX is a remarkable muscle car. It is the most famous from the late 1960s for a reason. If it can out-perform the likes of a Shelby, one of the most popular muscle cars rides around, then it can take the reign for being one of the most impressive muscle cars of all time.
