Dodge has announced that the Widebody Package, which installs flared fenders that add 3.5 inches of body width to the Dodge Challenger in order to house massive 305/35ZR20 Pirelli performance tires, will now be available for two additional 2021 Challenger trim levels. So yes, the Challenger lineup is expanding. Again.
The new 2021 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shaker Widebody price is $47,690, and the new 2021 Dodge Challenger T/A 392 Widebody price is $49,090. These prices for the new Challenger Widebody models do not include a $1,495 destination fee. Previously, the Widebody Package was available only with the R/T Scat Pack (sans shaker hood), Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, and new-for-2020 Super Stock.
Both of these new Widebody Challengers are powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine that churns out 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. Dodge says adding the Widebody Package to the R/T Scat Pack Shaker will decrease the quarter-mile time by 0.2 seconds, resulting in a 12-second run at 112 mph.
If you’re wondering what a Dodge Challenger Shaker is, let us explain.
Any internal combustion engine can benefit from the induction of cold air relative to engine temperature in order to maximize output and performance. The Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shaker uses a hood scoop to bring that cold air into the engine, but it is not integrated with the hood. Rather, it sits on top of the engine, pokes out through a hole in the sheetmetal, and “shakes” due to the mechanical vibration under the hood.
What’s the point? It looks dope, bro.
If you disagree that the R/T Scat Pack Shaker Widebody is sick, then maybe the new Challenger T/A 392 Widebody is right for you. It’s got a traditional hood scoop and a look that hearkens back to the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) 1970 Trans Am racing series. You get a Satin Black hood, roof and trunk lid, along with T/A decals and graphics and available hood pins. Inside you’ll see retro “tic-toc-tach” gauges and Houndstooth cloth inserts in the upholstery. Heated and ventilated front seats with Nappa leather are available if you’re not into the retro 70’s interior vibe.
Dodge dealers are taking orders now for the 2021 Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shaker Widebody, while the 2021 Challenger T/A 392 Widebody release date is coming in a few months. Both cars will be ready for delivery to customers sometime in early 2021.
